Wholesale Club Shopping Costco and BJs Review

Wholesale Club Shopping Online

OK! Before you read my entire article, I will tell you the summary. Costco and BJs are worth giving a one year membership a try. Costco will even refund you at anytime if you are unhappy.

Worst case, a wholesale club membership only costs you a couple of dollars a months. You spend more than that on a cup of coffee. Wholesale clubs become money drains only when you feel obligated to use your wholesale club for everything because you paid a membership fee. That is not necessary to get your money's worth out of a wholesale club membership. If you have a wholesale club membership, that does not mean you have to buy everything there!

I can only comment on Costco and BJs wholesale clubs. I have never used Sam's Club even though it is right across the straight from their owner, my favorite nemesis, Walmart. I, like most people, have a love hate relationship with Walmart. You usually can't beat the prices but hate what they stand for. The truth is for a savings point of view, Walmart offer many items in bulk now. I shop there enough to stock up on TP and paper towels without paying a wholesale club membership. (Walmart should be paying me a membership fee! or at least offer a frequent shopper club!)

I had been a member of BJs for 10 yrs, until I let my membership lapse last month. I realized my once weekly visits had lapsed into every couple of months, to longer than 3 months stretches. I do not need Bjs anymore because I have the time to comparison shop and can get out more easliy now that the kids are in school.

I have been a member of Costco for 2 yrs with a business professional membership. I use Costco for many of my business purchases so I switched to only using Costco instead of having both memberships. Bjs and Costco carry most of the same things. Costco has a more ofice supplies, toys, etcs I need for my online retail business.

I feel Costco and Bjs are equally professional and offer good customer service. BJs has the benefit of accepting MFR coupons and accepts all major credit cards! Costco only accepts checks and American Express in their warehouses (they do accept all major credit cards online though) BJs lines seem to move very quickly, and their aisles, at least at the ones I have been to, are better organized.

BJs was a lifesaver when my children were babies. With triplets plus one, I went through alot of diapers and baby wipes. OK, now I need toilet paper in bulk, but as I mentioned before, I can get bulk TP at Walmart and Target too. I do have the luxury of many shopping choices nearby.

When my kids were babies, I could not follow the sales for the best prices because getting out with 4 babies was tough! BJs also offered the huge double seater shopping carts. My membership fee was worth the ability to safely strap all 4 kids and do all of my shopping plus get a bunch of boxes I could use for packing and shipping on my eBay business! (How did I strap in 4 kids? Well, the shopping carts with the toy car in front fit 2 kids, and the shopping cart also had double seater in the carriage. So worth it!)

I could get my eyeglasses reasonably at BJs, tires for the minivan, coffee and even my copy of People magazine - two of my few vices. I also purchased alot of our clothes there. Quality clothes like Levi's jeans, Dockers Khakis, Polo Oxfords, and Carters clothes for the kids. We stocked up on socks and undies too.

So although the grocery prices were not great compared to what I could find at local supermarkets, the convenience more than made up for it for me.

With small kids, one stop shopping is best! Of course, I would always end buying stitckers, snacks... loved the crossiants I would eat two in the car while driving around with all 4 kids sound sleep surrounded by our BJs loot.

Of course, the crossiants would go stale in a day, and I actually ended up paying a fortune for the two I ate! Some things just aren't meant to be purchased in bulk. Cheerios, Huggies, wipes, and paper towels... yeah families with small kids need those in bulk!

I use Costco mostly for business purchases. I also find the same deals as BJ's on name brand clothes for my family. Their prices are good on toys and gift items. I am an authorized retailer for many of the same MFRs represented at Costco in the toy, furniture and gift departments. I can tell you the Costco markup over actual wholesale is only 10-12%. You are getting a great deal. I use them to supplement my stores when the MFR has a backorder on a certain item. AND there are also alot of eBay sellers making a nice profit off of dropshipping Costco items to customers! That is how good their prices can be!

I use Costco for seasonal and big purchases, like tires. We will eventually get that extra shed we need. I will make most of my big purchases and business purchases ONLINE and have them shipping to my front door. Now you can wholesale club comparison shop from your couch. Both BJs and Costco have great websites, and good deals online.

Costco and Bjs carry major name brand toys, bedding, baby, and electronics items online that may not be available in their warehouses near you. They even have exclusives with some MFRs on certain products. For example, if you want the most gigantic wooden Barbie Dollhouse by Kidkraft, you can only find the Grand Villa at Costco.com.

Costco also had the best and fastest photo processing for our holiday photo cards this year. I created and ordered our Christmas photo cards online on a Friday night, and picked them up at my local Costco Saturday morning.

When you are trying to decide if the $35-$50 is worth the membership, look beyond bulk purchasing rotten tomatoes! Look at what you can get and still be thirfty, online!

I never had success with fresh fruits and veggies at BJs. Nothing ever lasted long enough for me to get my money's worth. I prefer paying money for fresh produce. The only exception is that Costco does have some cool exotic foods, and ya gotta love their bakery!

Buying in bulk can save you money. You have more choices now than when wholesale clubs first started popping up. you have Target, Walmart and similiar stores. You also have wholesale clubs online on the internet. BJs and Costco are definitely worth a try!

The learner uses the new language to deal with familiar thoughts, situations and conversations, gradually expanding his understanding and ability to communicate. Through this method the student learns another language in a manner not too different from the way he learned his first language.

Learn an Organizing Lesson From Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 what a fabulous movie!

As a professional organizer, I'm thinking a few days later what a great lesson the movie was on how to giving your cherished belongings to another.

Now without going into any spoilers, there are some crazy, bad and hilarious events that happen to the toys throughout the movie. Mr. Potato Head, you stole the show!

In the movie, Andy is heading off to college and his mom has him sort his toys for the attic and donation. (ooh, as an organizer I was riveted). Andy's toys were placed into his toy box, not played with for years. Toy boxes are playtime deathtraps for toys. You need to know that once toys, or nearly any other item for that matter, is placed into the attic. It is likely never heard from again.

A better way to honor your items is to give them to another person to enjoy. Like in the Toy Story series, You have to think of the feelings of your items. You once enjoyed them with passion and gusto. You showed them off with pride and honor.

Time has past and your items have made their way into boxes stacked up in a hot, funky smelling attic covered in layers of dust, insulation and the random mouse dropping never to be touched for years. Is that any way to treat something you once loved?

Now, think about getting your wonderful items to someone who will love, touch and enjoy them. Yeah it may be a bit of a sting to let them go. Better to let them go and see daylight, than sit around gathering dust and funk in a dried out box.

When I was young, I couldn't wait for winter! It never really mattered how cold it was outside, I just wanted to play in the snow. Whether it was sledding, tobogganing, building a snowman or having a snowball fight with the other kids, I just wanted to be outside!

If you have fond memories like I do of playing in the snow when you were younger, you want your children to experience this same fun. How Does a Model Rocket Engine Work?

This article is obviously just a basic introduction to model rocketry. With the Carlisle brothers' development of the pre-packaged model rocket engine, this is a hobby that can be safely enjoyed by all. I encourage you to get out there and launch your first rocket. Once you do, you'll be hooked.

If you're interested in becoming a model rocket enthusiast, you'll probably want to learn a little bit about the history and workings of the model rocket. This fun hobby can provide years of entertainment and education for you and your family.

Who Invented the Model Rocket Engine?

The modern model rocket engine was created in 1954 by Orville and Robert Carlisle. Orville was a pyrotechnics expert and his brother, Robert, was a model airplane hobbyist. Although small rockets had been designed in previous years by scientists for research purposes, the Carlisle brothers were the first to develop the modern model rocket for the amateur market. Up until that time, many young rocket enthusiasts had been injured (or even killed) trying to create their own model rocket engines. The development of the pre-packaged engine changed the hobby from one that had inherent dangers to one that was safe. It also made rocketry an affordable hobby. The current price for model rocket engines is about $5 for a pack of three engines at local hobby and toy stores.

Parts of the Model Rocket Engine

Most model rockets have pre-manufactured single-use engines. These have become popular because they allow people to fly their model rockets without having to handle the dangerous propellants. The engine consists of the casing (typically paper or lightweight wood) with a clay or ceramic nozzle at one end and a clay end cap at the other end. Between the nozzle and the end cap are three different charges. The Propellant Charge is what gets your model rocket off the ground and into the air. Once this charge has burned off, your rocket will have reached a sub-atmospheric altitude (usually between 1,000 and 1,500 feet). The first charge will burn through and ignite the second charge or Delay Charge during the coasting phase of the rocket's flight. During this phase, the delay charge emits smoke, enabling you to spot the rocket in the sky. The final phase, the Ejection Charge, activates the recovery system for the model rocket. The ejection charge produces a small explosion which ejects the nose cone and deploys the parachute for recovery of the rocket.

Model Rocket Performance

How fast the rocket travels, how high it ascends, and how far it goes depends on the type of model rocket engine used. Model rocket engines are not all the same. The weight of the case, the amount of propellant or the pattern of the burn, and the length of coasting time for the delay charge all affect the way the rocket will perform.

When purchasing model rocket engines, you will notice that each engine is given a number. The format for the types of engines is the same. It is letter number-number (example C6-4). The letter indicates the rocket engine's total impulse range (with A being the lowest and O being the highest). This range is defined in newton-seconds, which is a measure of momentum. The first number indicates the engine's average thrust (measured in newtons). If you have a heavier rocket, you should use an engine with a higher thrust. The second number indicates the length (in seconds) of the delay charge phase. In our example engine, C6-4, the delay charge would burn for four seconds. It's important to know the length of the coasting phase of the flight so you don't eject the parachute while the rocket is still ascending, or you don't eject the parachute too close to the ground on the descent.

Toys are always popular sellers on eBay, not just in the run up to Christmas. What most people don't know is that just a few sneaky tricks and techniques can sky rocket your profits, cut your overheads, and turn your toys into phenomenal money-makers on eBay. Here's how it's done:

* Second-hand toys are always popular sellers on eBay, not just for buyers on a budget, but also because some second hand toys are no longer available new or they are rare collectables. So keep a close eye open for yesterday's toys at car boot sales and flea markets, at jumble sales and in charity shops. Haggle when buying toys at boot sales and flea markets and negotiate big discounts on items you can resell on eBay. Spend those discounts on paint and cleaning materials and neat new packaging to improve appearance and perceived value of your items. Once done, toys might look like new, but they are not new and you must make this very clear in your eBay listing.

* When you buy second-hand, look for multiple identical items, some broken, some missing spare parts, remove all the good parts and use them to create one perfect version of a popular toy. But remember, it's still second-hand and you must say so in your listing.

* Here's a good idea to lift the perceived value of used toys: rather than call them second-hand, call them 'previously loved' or 'previously owned' or 'cherished oldies'.

* Vintage toys and games are popular sellers on eBay and you'll often find them lurking alongside modern toys and games at boot sales and flea markets. This is especially so on stalls manned by families, not traders, making it more important than ever to arrive early and grab the best deals for yourself. Once traders selling or visiting the event start raking about your chance is gone. But, let me be honest here, let me ask you a special favour. I hate watching television shows where items are valued in thousands of pounds which the new owner picked up for pennies from unsuspecting traders at boot sales and flea markets. Once the deal is done for an item you suspect is valuable, based on sneaky tips mentioned in the haggling article about not letting the seller know he's just sold a gem for a pittance, at least buy something else from the seller! Make that person's day, just as s/he has just done for you!

* At boot sales, you'll find knowledgeable sellers displaying their best toys and games (and other items) prominently on top of the table. Non-specialist sellers, usually families and private individuals, are more likely to pack everything into boxes, some boxes on the table, some beneath. Spend time searching these boxes, you may find the best stuff hidden at the bottom of the pile.

* Instead of listing toys you know are popular sellers and facing heavy competition, look for unusual items and toys you haven't been able to find on eBay. But don't risk money buying items that might not actually sell; instead ask permission to use the sellers' graphics in your eBay listings. English Language Teaching - Using Toys as Educational Tools

Children love to play. Who can deny it? So why not use this universal characteristic to provide and promote English language learning as well? If you do, you can hardly go wrong. What child is going to say, "Teacher, I don't want to play"? Sure, it's ultimately possible - but so is a force five tornado in South America or an "Armageddon-level earthquake in Tibet. Just don't hold your breath while you're waiting.

Toys of all types and kinds are available worldwide. Why not turn this to your advantage to motivate your young learners? For that matter, your not-so-young learners could benefit too; especially those learners who are "young at heart", for those of you who might be teaching adult learners. Let's look at some "realia" or "toys" that are commonly available and could be called into play. (pun intended)

o Stuffed animals and dolls -

A perennial learner favorite even my most mature adult students give up an "Awww", whenever I whip out the likes of Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Tigger, rabbit, puppy, Teddy or others of my stuffed animal menagerie. You can simulate conversations, use them to illustrate prepositions of place and position, as turn-taking devices or to "replace" learners in a game or activity. They (the stuffed animals) don't mind being tossed around either.

o Soft rubber or inflated ball -

How a classroom could function without at least one of these is beyond me. One learner can "select" another in a mill drill, TPR or group activity by simply tossing the ball to someone else. That way the teacher won't "play favorites" during the activity. A ball can be used in a relay fashion to signal the next learner in a sequence or game. If it's dropped or mis-handled, no problem, it just bounces a couple of times or so before returning to the game. Neat, huh?

o Cars, trucks and other Vehicles -

Learners can "drive" to places in a neighborhood, from one part of the room to another or from one position on a game board to another. Small ones can serve as place markers in a board game, while larger ones can be used as props in dialogues, role plays and conversations. Don't forget about using them for grammar and verb practice activities either. And oh yes, girls as well as boys like them too. Adults? Well I have to watch my vehicle props carefully or the adult learners will "steal" them!

o Board games -

You really only need a small selection of board games if you have even a shred of imagination. Two or three will work nicely. Some all-time favorites are ones like "Scrabble", "Monopoly", "Checkers" and "Chess" which both use the same alternately colored squares board. Use the boards to "create" your own games too. Don't forget a deck or two of Playing Cards either. No, not for Poker, but for simpler, faster-playing games like "War", "Fish" or "21" (numbers - not Blackjack!)

Please note:

I'm not a proponent of using guns or simulations of firearms of any type in the classroom - not even water pistols. No bats, hitting, or aggressive behavior promoting realia of any type normally enters my learning environments. True you can get aggressive behavior from some of the toys I've mentioned, but it's easily squashed or put down without too much trouble. I just explain to the learners what's allowed and what's not. This of course, is by no means an exhaustive list. I'm sure you'll come up with many of your own locally-available favorites for use in your classroom. In fact, if you have some unusual or unique realia that you use, I'd love to hear about it.

You Don't Have To Be A Rocket Scientist To Pass An IQ Quiz

Q. Can you really tell anything about someone's intelligence by having them take an IQ quiz?

A. The answer to this question requires a bit of background information, so let me put my professor hat on and tell you a story.

An IQ quiz measures a person's Intelligence Quotient (IQ). IQ is calculated using this formula: IQ = 100 MA/CA where MA = Mental Age and CA = Chronological Age.

The IQ test was originated back in 1905 by French psychologist Alfred Binet and his physician research partner Dr. Theodore Simon. These two guys came up with the "Binet Simon Test". This test's purpose was to measure the intelligence of retarded children.

The test was based upon several observations:

1. Children grow more mentally capable as they grow older

2. Some children perform at higher grade and age levels than their actual grade and age level. While other children are just the opposite.

The mental age (MA) portion of the formula is the age level that the child is found to perform at. For example, a 6-year-old who performed at the level of an 8-year-old, is assigned a MA of 8 and, of course, a CA of 6. Conversely, an 8-year-old, who performed at the level of a 6-year-old, is given a CA of 8 and a MA of 6. With me so far? If you are then you've already passed my IQ test because I'm starting to get confused and I'm the one who is writing this article!

3. Binet and Simpson also discovered that these gaps between MA and CA grew wider as the children aged. Our child who had a MA of 8 when he was 6, was found to have a MA of 12 by the time that he reached age 8. Conversely, the child who had a MA of 6 when he was 9, had a MA of 8 when he reached 12.

4. They also noticed that although the MA/CA gap widened as the children grew older, the ratio of MA:CA remained constant. This constant ratio was called the "Intelligence Quotient".

The IQ quiz, or IQ test, was developed as a way of determining the MA:CA ratio of any person at any age.

So, what (if anything) can be deduced about a person based upon the results of an IQ quiz?

According to an article "The General Intelligence Factor", Scientific American Presents "Exploring Intelligence", pg. 24, 1999, author Linda Gottfredson writes:

"Adults in the bottom 5% of the IQ distribution (below 75) are very difficult to train and are not competitive for any occupation on the basis of ability. Serious problems in training low-IQ military recruits during World War II led Congress to ban enlistment from the lowest 10% (below 80) of the population, and no civilian occupation in modern economies routinely recruits its workers from that below-80 range."

"Current military enlistment standards exclude any individual whose IQ is below about 85." "Persons of average IQ (between 90 and 100) are not competitive for most professional and executive-level work but are easily trained for the bulk of jobs in the American economy. By contrast, individuals in the top 5 percent of the adult population can essentially train themselves, and few occupations are beyond their reach mentally." "People with IQs between 75 and 90 are 88 times more likely to drop out of high school, seven times more likely to be jailed, and five times more likely as adults to live in poverty than people with IQs between 110 and 125. The 75-to-90 IQ woman is eight times more likely to become a chronic welfare recipient, and four times as likely to bear an illegitimate child than the 110-to-125-IQ woman."

Wow, those are some pretty dramatic conclusions that are based solely upon IQ as determined by an IQ quiz. If you believe what Ms. Gottfredson writes, then the answer to your question of "Can you really tell anything about someone's intelligence by having them take an IQ quiz?" is: It would appear so. Like any quiz, however, don't feel too bad if you "fail" an IQ Quiz. Some people just suck at taking tests!

Kidkraft Fun Explorer Rocket Ship

The Kidkraft Rocket Ship caught my attention during the Holiday season when I was looking for an interesting gift for my 5 years old nephew. I had already bought Kidkraft Glamour dollhouse for my niece, and I wanted something similar but for a boy. The KidKraft Rocket Ship was all I was looking for, and as it turned out, both kids just love it.

The Kidkraft Rocket Ship is really great fun for boys and for girls. Like in dollhouses for girls, there are a lot of details in painting and decor. The rocket ship has several rooms, stairs, doors, astronauts, robots and even aliens. There are a lot of little pieces and parts to add, remove and move around. The ship's astronauts and robots can access all four floors via the working elevator or climb into their land rovers and head down the removable ramp when it's time to chart new territory.

The Kidkraft Rocket Ship gives the little astronauts all the gear they need to explore the outer space. Ab Rocket Review - 1 Thing Which Concerns Me

One of the frequent infomercials I see these days is the one for the Ab Rocket exercise equipment. I haven't tried this product myself, but I am always looking for new ways to flatten the abs so I decided to do a little research about this product.

The Ab Rocket is a device for working the abs. What's special about it is that it has a neck support and back cushions which are supposed to give you a massage while you're doing crunches. This is supposed to provide an easier experience than regular sit-ups or other abs machines. The Ab Rocket weighs around 10 pounds and is small enough to not take much room around the house. These are just the features of course, the real question is whether or not it works.

The Ab Rocket infomercial promises that using the AbRocket will not only give you a better workout but will also shave inches from you stomach and waist. What bothers me is that it's virtually impossible to spot reduce fat from a specific body part. This means that even if you workout a specific muscle group, you lose fat from all over your body depending on your genetics.

The truth about having six pack abs or toned abs is that you need to be lean for them to show. Even if you have strong stomach muscles, your abs will not show if you have a layer of belly fat to cover them. As you can't lose belly fat alone, I don't see how just working with the AbRocket or any other abs machine will to get you a lean stomach. The way to do that is through cardio workout, total body weight exercises, and a healthy and balanced diet.

The Ab rocket may get you to workout more, and if so, it may be worth to buy. But at the $100 price tag, I think there are better options. Namely, getting an abs program which teaches you what to do in both the fitness aspect and the nutrition one. Because only through combining the right workouts with the right nutrition routine will you become lean enough to have a flat and sexy stomach.

I recommend using a diet program called Truth About Abs as I use it myself to great success and it costs a fraction of what the Ab Rocket costs. If you wish to buy the AbRocket than do so by all means, but I believe that this ab program will provide better results.

The reason is that the right kind of knowledge allows you to be versatile with your workouts so you can fit them to any location, amount of space, time restrictions, and so on. The right kind of Abs Knowledge program does something more: it covers the right kind of nutrition that you need in order to really propel your body into the sort of results you're looking for.

Knowledge will always beat any training machine in my opinion. And the best thing is that Abs programs usually cost much less than Abs machines like the Ab Rocket or others. Again, I'm not bad mouthing the Ab Rocket in particular. I'm stating my view that in order to get true results, you need to invest in the knowledge before anything else.
